Khaki Fever organised us the most exceptional honeymoon in Southern Africa. It was everything we had hoped for. We had excellent wildlife viewing, and enjoyed peace and quiet in the beautiful, luxurious lodges that Julie chose for us. Everything was just perfect.

Our party of seven first-time visitors to South Africa was privileged to have the expert help of Julie from Khaki Fever Safaris to craft our first ever safari in Africa. Julie ensured we had a most memorable and enjoyable experience of the African bush which we could easily have missed out on – including full day Kruger safaris with a very enthusiastic, knowledgeable, experienced guide. We saw many different species including the big 5 at close range in the most beautiful settings imaginable. Our lodge was superb with everything we could want, and with it’s own range of “plains game” which greeted us on arrival – a most wonderful introduction to our African stay. Our trip also included a Panorama Route Tour with the Magnificent Blyde River Canyon.  Many thanks Julie for organising a perfect trip in every way which totally exceeded our expectations!

Julie and the team at Khaki Fever Safaris did the most fantastic job of organising a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me and my friends when we visited South Africa. Julie understood our brief completely, and provided a great selection of offerings, tailored to our group and was very prompt at getting back to us with any questions we had. The option we chose was absolutely perfect – beautiful accommodation in a tranquil setting surrounded by so many gorgeous animals, delicious meals, fantastic drivers and guides and wonderful day trips to Kruger National Park and surrounding areas. Right from the moment we arrived in South Africa, we felt so welcome – from a handwritten note and gorgeous stainless steel drink bottle gift from Julie and the team, to her checking in along the way to make sure we were having a wonderful time. Thanks so much again – we can’t wait to come back again one day!

This highly sought-after adventure comprises a mix of walking and canoeing in order to access the most remote and beautiful areas of this pristine part of Botswana. A helicopter flight will transport you to the starting point of the trail in a private concession on the Selinda Spillway (a small channel of water linking the Okavango Delta to the Linyanti); well known for some of Botswana’s largest herds of buffalo and elephant, roan antelope and African wild dog. Other possible sightings include cheetah, lion, leopard.

On the 3-night/4-day adventure you will paddle in your 2-man canoe between strategic points, then jump out to explore wooded islands and grassy plains on foot. You’ll be guided by local “water-bushmen” indigenous to the area, the perfect leaders on your physical, spiritual and cultural journey through this private wilderness.

Each night is spent in extreme comfort in an already-set-up camp, and evenings spent around the camp fire, under bright starlight are an absolute highlight. This is a unique African adventure that will get you close to a raw, unspoilt nature, and an experience that will quite simply blow you away.

This is simply an example itinerary that can be tweaked and changed to suit your needs. This is also why we don’t put prices on our itineraries – we specialize in tailor-making our trips for each individual client. If you like the sound of this itinerary, then send us a direct email enquiry, or fill out the detailed enquiry form below.

This adventure trail has set departures in the dry season between May – September when water levels are at their highest (and allow for canoeing). Children from 14 years of age are welcome on this trail, and no prior canoeing experience is necessary. You’ll paddle your canoe every day and also walk for around 4 hours a day, exploring islands and floodplains in search of wildlife. Please ensure you are in relatively fit walking condition before booking the trail.

This Selinda Adventure Trail can easily be added to the beginning, middle, or end of your traditional wildlife safari to give you a taste of adventure; and offer you a truly eye-opening and soul-widening African safari experience.

Escaping civilization and experiencing peace in the private Selinda Reserve.

Seeing elephants cross the channel in front of your canoe.

Glamping in a true African wilderness.

Connecting to nature in a non-disruptive way.

A deeply spiritual experience with “water bushmen”.

Seeing wild dogs and lions on foot.

DAY 1-3 – Selinda Adventure Trail

DAY 4 – Selinda Airstrip, Depart

4 Days (including final travel day)

DAY 1: Arrive in Selinda

From Maun, you’ll take a light-aircraft flight to the Selinda concession (arrival before 1pm), and get flown via helicopter, to the remote starting point of the trail.

Day Time

Each day begins in the early morning after a hearty breakfast, when the Spillway is at its most peaceful. Walking is an integral component of the adventure and allows for access to new islands and lagoons. Even when you are on a canoe safari, each day includes walking experiences of up to four hours to investigate areas of regular predator activity or wildlife sightings.

Brunch is taken around mid-morning and light snacks are available throughout the day for sustenance until dinner. Often your guides will set up a table and chairs in the shallow, crystal-clear waters of a slow moving channel, surrounded by animal and birdlife!

Walk & Canoe

As each day passes, you will make your way along peaceful waterways and explore wooded islands on foot and by canoe. Walking distance is just over a total of 12 miles (20 kilometres) over the 4 days when canoeing is approximately 25 miles (40 kilometres) over the 4 days. When canoeing, each canoe has two guests as well as their bed rolls and soft bags. Participants paddle their own canoes each day.

This trail is a truly luxurious “glamping” experience, and guests are not expected to put up their tents or help with the cooking and camp chores as our staff are on hand.

Walk-in Kodiak tents are provided as they are comfortable and large enough for two people. Screened, amazing bucket-showers with hot and cold water are also supplied to freshen up after each active day.

When walking, each guest will be supplied with a day backpack, which will include water, and an armed, qualified walking guide as well as an experienced tracker will be with you at all times as you explore the banks of the Spillway as well as the more remote, beautiful areas of the Selinda Reserve.

At night, the deep silence is punctuated by exotic nocturnal sounds, from croaking frogs to roaring lion or the hyena’s whooping call. The atmosphere is magical and the highlight of any African safari.

Enjoy sunset drinks over floodplains and marshes, and spend the evenings around the camp fire, surrounded by true wilderness. Listen to stories of the bush while you enjoy a delicious three-course meal prepared over open flames.

Without a doubt, a highlight of the Adventure Trail is meeting and interacting with the area’s indigenous “water bushmen”, who will accompany you on the trail, and teach you about “their” land.

DAY 4: Selinda Airstrip, Depart

On the last morning of the Adventure Trail, we end your adventure with a treasure hunt game drive from your final camp to the Selinda Airstrip for your onward departure back to Maun.

You can also choose to stay on for an additional night or two at one of the luxurious bush camps situated in the Selinda Reserve. Or extend your trip to see more of Botswana (Kalahari Desert, Savuti, Okavango Delta), Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique or even South Africa!
