Botswana’s northern region, from the Central Kalahari Game Reserve north, encompassing the Okavango Delta and Savuti is considered home to some of the most phenomenal wildlife experiences and most luxurious bush camps on the African continent! This itinerary is a quick “highlights” visit of three of Botswana’s most diverse, and unforgettable wildlife experiences. This itinerary has a rare mix of phenomenal game-viewing and cultural immersion, leaving you with a unique and breath-taking safari experience.
From authentic cultural immersion in the Kalahari Desert – surrounded by the area’s famous predators and dramatic landscapes – and the unmatched beauty and tranquility in the heart of the Okavango, where crystal-clear waters and palm-lined lagoons are home to hippos, elephants, and phenomenal birdlife; to the infamous predator-playground that is Savuti – an entirely different habitat where prides of lions and clans of hyenas are common sightings. This is a safari experience that’s not to be missed, and if anything, we suggest you make this exact itinerary longer to fully absorb each phenomenal experience.
This is simply an example itinerary that can be tweaked and changed to suit your needs. This is also why we don’t put prices on our itineraries – we specialize in tailor-making our trips for each individual client. This is a “fly-by” trip through three of Botswana’s northern highlights, especially for travellers who are tight on time. We would, however, highly recommend staying longer in each location to really get the benefits of each experience.
This itinerary includes “Classic” safari camps. You can, however, take the luxury up a notch and stay in “Premier” safari camps. Premier camps are the best of the best; and offer a world-class experience in every way possible. For a 6 or 7-star safari experience that’s second to none, just tell us you’d rather “lodge-hop” through Botswana’s Premier camps!

IN A NUTSHELL
DAY 1-2 – Central Kalahari Game Reserve
DAY 3-4 – Okavango Delta
DAY 5-6 – Savuti
DAY 7 – Maun / Kasane Airport, Depart
7 Days (including final travel day)
DAY 1-2: Central Kalahari Game Reserve
In marked contrast to the Okavango camps, your camp in the Kalahari sits on the edge of an immense, animal-attracting pan. See large herds of gemsbok (oryx) and springbok graze on the open plains, and watch them attract the attention of hungry cheetah and black-maned Kalahari lions! See unique wildlife you won’t see anywhere else on this trip – bat-eared foxes, ground squirrels, and interesting antelope.
Get an authentic view into the ancient San Bushman culture, and learn about their sustainable way of life. Eight cool canvas suites (including a family unit) each feature a rooftop sleep-out platform, with unequalled views of the night sky. A refreshing pool and unique architecture make the desert temperatures much more comfortable.
DAY 3-4: Central Okavango Delta
After breakfast, or your early-morning game drive, you’ll depart the camp for your short flight into the heart of the Okavango. This water wonderland really is a wild African paradise. “Paradise Island” is a fitting name for this area of islands, channels and papyrus beds. Take a boat trip to shallow lagoons and have a swim in crystal-clear waters! Mekoro (traditional dug-out canoe) excursions are a must, as well as game drives on the productive Nxabega Island.
Nine luxury tents nestled between giant riverine trees are connected by an elevated walkway. A highlight is reading the ‘morning news’ – the tracks of nocturnal visitors left behind in a sandpit on the bridge. This is the land of the elusive Sitatunga antelope and Pel’s fishing-owl. Keep an eye out for these and other rare sightings as you float along the serene channels of the Delta.
DAY 5-6: Savuti
After breakfast, or your early-morning mekoro ride, you’ll get a boat ride back to the nearest airstrip for your flight to Savuti, known for its exotic animal species and luxury safari options.
An abundance of wildlife roams freely between the woodland habitats, ancient floodplains and forests that make up this vast, unfenced reserve. The big game in this area increases dramatically during the dry season when the area hosts large herds of impala, blue wildebeest, giraffe and buffalo as well as the world’s highest density of elephant.
The Savuti area is also well known for its several packs of wild dog, and large population of lion, leopard and cheetah! Enjoy watching elephants drink in front of your camp and marvel at the bright starry skies as you relax around the camp fire.
Night drives allow for the discovery of nocturnal creatures such as civets, genets, honey badgers and spring hares.
