DELTA DAZE
10 DAYS
Botswana
The Okavango Delta is a must-see destination for any nature or outdoor-loving traveller. This unique watery-wonderland is dominated by tall palm trees, lily-pad lagoons, lush green floodplains and a wealth of animal and birdlife. From the northern tip of the Delta near the border of Namibia, to the southern tip, outside the frontier town of Maun, the Okavango offers an array of incredible safari experiences and adventures for every age group.
This itinerary provides an exhilarating, sensory journey through the Delta and all it has to offer – from the wide flowing river in the north, and the gentle mekoro-ready swamps in the south, to the dry Big-5-loving islands dotted in between. Once you’ve experienced the Delta in its raw beauty, you’ll find it hard not to return again and again and again!
This is simply an example itinerary that can be tweaked and changed to suit your needs. This is also why we don’t put prices on our itineraries – we specialize in tailor-making our trips for each individual client. If you like the sound of this itinerary, then send us a direct email enquiry, or fill out the detailed enquiry form below.
TIP
The Okavango Delta is one of Africa’s most expensive safari destinations, but don’t fear, Khaki Fever has worked hard to find the most affordable options to suit you and your budget. Whether it’s a traditional wildlife safari, walking safari, or mobile safari you’re looking for in the Delta, we will tweak this itinerary to find your perfect fit.
Remember that traveling between December – March is a cheaper time of year in the Delta, with fewer tourists! Game-viewing is a little more difficult because the animals are more spread out, but this is the most beautiful time of year to see the bush.

THE DETAILS
10 Days (excluding final travel day)
DAY 1-3: Okavango River
The Okavango River proper, before it spreads to form the Okavango Delta, is a fascinating world of papyrus-lined channels and crystal-clear water with a sandy white bottom. This part of the Delta is home to phenomenal birdlife, huge crocodiles, pods of hippos, and reed-munching elephants. Go on private sunset boat cruises or early morning fishing trips to catch a toothy tiger fish or wide-mouthed cat fish.
Enjoy picnics on deserted “beaches” or just enjoy the peace and quiet of the riverine forest around your cozy little riverside lodge.
DAY 4-7: Chief’s Island, Central Delta
(or similar)
Take the short, light-aircraft flight into the central Delta – a world ruled by small waterways and water-loving wildlife. Your stay in an authentic, peaceful bush camp, focuses on walking safaris and mekoro (traditional dug-out canoe) trails – the most unobtrusive and “pure” way to experience this pristine environment. See herds of zebra, elephant and lechwe on daily bush walks, or opt for an over-night mekoro trail and sleep on a remote island in the middle of the Delta!
DAY 8-10: Khwai Concession,
Eastern Delta (or similar)
Take another short flight to a drier section of the Delta where Big 5 animals like lions, elephants and leopards call home! Stay in a beautiful, colonial-style bush camp and enjoy a typical safari experience with daily game drives. Sip on a gin and tonic in the middle of the bush as the sun sets, chat about your day’s sightings around the camp fire, and get some down time next to the camp swimming pool.
DAY 11: Maun International Airport, Depart
Return to Maun for your flight home or extend your vacation to include more of Botswana (Chobe, Savuti, Kalahari) or Zimbabwe.
