KALAHARI DESERT

GET IN TOUCH

COLORFUL DESERT

The Central Kalahari Game Reserve and its surrounding private concessions are a world away from the watery-wonderlands of the Okavango and Chobe. The Kalahari is a vast expanse of semi-desert habitat that supports a diverse and unique array of wildlife and plants.

This is where the pace of your safari calms down, and you can finally relax and catch your breath. The Kalahari is a deeply peaceful and tranquil place, and the far-stretching savannahs and varied wildlife offer a completely unique and welcomed safari experience. This is also the place to learn more about the fascinating ancient San culture. Historically known as “bushmen”, the San people are almost completely dependent on modern society now, but their culture and traditions are still very much alive in the Kalahari. Learn more about their history and culture, or enjoy a walk through the bush to discover “their” Kalahari.

EXQUISITE FLOWERING

This is where your typical thorn-tree images of Africa can be found! Acacia thickets and large patches of exquisite flowering shrubs give way to wide-open grassy plains, synonymous with the “African savannah”. The area is home to regal “black-maned” lions, antelope like springbok and oryx, bat-eared foxes, hyenas, charismatic ground squirrels, ostriches, leopards and the Kalahari’s plains are a favorite habitat for cheetah. Summer is a great time to see the Kalahari’s vibrant landscape come to life with bright flowers and fantastic bird life.
